Introduction and Overview of Proactive Risk Management

At Anise Learning, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our participants. Our proactive approach to risk management encompasses comprehensive planning and ongoing assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential risks associated with our short-term study abroad programs in the UAE. By implementing a rigorous risk assessment policy, we aim to foster a secure and enriching experience for US university students.

Involvement of Founder Rachel Martinez

As the founder of Anise Learning, Rachel Martinez plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of our programs. Her extensive experience as an American based full-time in the UAE allows her to provide valuable insights that shape our approach to risk management. Rachel’s active involvement includes:

-
Overseeing program development to incorporate best practices in safety education.
-
Being personally accessible to students and staff for support and guidance throughout their experience.
-
Continuously evaluating and adapting our risk management strategies based on feedback and changing circumstances in the region.

Cultural Education

Cultural immersion is a core component of our programs, and we emphasize the importance of understanding the local culture to mitigate risks stemming from cultural misunderstandings:

-
Pre-departure orientation sessions cover key cultural norms and expectations in the UAE to prepare students for respectful engagement with the local community.
-
On-site workshops and guided tours further enhance cultural understanding, equipping students with the knowledge they need to navigate their new environment confidently.

Preparedness

Our staff receive extensive training on risk management principles and emergency procedures. This training includes:

-
Regular workshops focused on identifying potential risks and appropriate responses.
-
Simulation exercises that mimic real-life scenarios, ensuring that our team is well-prepared to handle emergencies.
-
Ongoing education about the cultural and social dynamics of the UAE, enabling staff to anticipate and address potential challenges effectively.

Collaboration with Local Partners

Anise Learning actively collaborates with established local partners, including educational institutions, healthcare providers, and security agencies. This collaboration enhances the safety and support available to our students:

-
Local partners provide valuable insights into regional safety protocols and facilitate access to essential services.
-
We maintain an open line of communication with local authorities to remain informed about any situational changes that could impact our programs.
-
Our partnerships ensure that students receive necessary logistical support and guidance throughout their stay.
Emergency

Anise Learning establishes emergency preparedness protocols to ensure rapid and effective responses to unforeseen incidents:

-
Ensure that all participants possess health and travel insurance.
-
Communicate emergency procedures to participants.
-
Keep an updated emergency contact list and make certain that participants are aware of their responsibilities toward the program and the university, along with their rights as citizens overseas.
-
Require participants to complete and sign several documents: an emergency contact form (detailing their insurance provider and policy number), an authorization for sharing information with the emergency contact, a liability waiver, and a student behavior agreement (code of conduct).
-
Provide contact details for hospitals, ambulance services, and police departments in the locations that will be visited.
-
Register participants with their home country's embassy or consulate in the countries they will be visiting.
-
Know the contact details for the nearest embassy or consulate of your home country.

Support for Emotional Wellbeing

We understand that studying abroad can be a transformative yet challenging experience. To support our students' emotional wellbeing, Anise Learning implements the following measures:

-
Counselling services and mental health resources can be provided when required.
-
Regular check-ins with program leaders to discuss any concerns students might have.
-
Structured group discussions to foster community support and encourage shared experiences.
